Omega Psi Phi Analyzes Modern Dating: Netflix and Chill? Featured

I was fascinated to read this article about Omega Psi Phi hosting an event on campus at Eastern Illinois University to analyze modern dating. Many fraternities focus on chivalry, and sometimes you have to wonder if it still exists. I’m also curious about the social aspect of modern dating. In the past, men and women would meet in person to have conversations and determine if they wanted to further pursue a relationship. Today, so many people meet online through various forums, websites, and apps. If today’s undergraduate student meets through Tinder without the initial face to face interaction, how does that dynamic change the dating experience? What are men’s and women’s opinions on “Netflix and Chill”? For me, it would be really interesting to host a forum like this on any college campus to see perspectives from both men and women on dating etiquette. I’m thinking that your Fraternity or Sorority chapter is a great place to start this conversation and then expand it to the entire community!

Phi Kappa Psi Hosts Battle of the Bands at Ohio University for Veterans Featured

I really enjoyed reading this article today about Phi Kappa Psi hosting a Battle of the Bands at Ohio University to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Sounds like a really fun music lineup on a college campus that engages all students for a great cause. They even had a trivia contest between sets. This sounds like the perfect annual event for any fraternity or sorority to accomplish multiple missions: university engagement, philanthropy, educating the campus community about the values of Phi Kappa Psi, and potential recruitment of new members that share those same values of the Fraternity. Well done!

Alpha Tau Omega at Nevada, Reno Work With Vets Featured

According to this article, so far, the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega at University of Nevada, Reno have raised $6,500 for Nevada Military Support Alliance. It’s a great cause to have a fundraiser for, but I especially liked the way they brought awareness on campus to the struggles of military personnel and veterans that perform their daily tasks in wheelchairs. When the brothers of ATO spoke to the veterans, the veterans felt that the mental issues were much tougher to deal with than the physical issues. Mobility is one of those things that most people take for granted, and if the brothers of ATO had a tough time dealing with being in a wheelchair on campus, then the mental issues have to be extremely difficult for the veterans of our country. By putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, it certainly gives you a greater appreciation for what the veterans have gone through, and why it’s so important to thank a veteran for their service not only on Veteran’s Day, but every day.

Kappa Alpha Psi Youth Mentorship Program Featured

Check out this article where members of Hopkinsville-Fort Campbell Alumni of Kappa Alpha Psi are starting a new youth mentorship program. It’s designed for the educational, occupational and social guidance of male students from 6th grade – 12th grade. Their monthly meetings focus around self-identity, training, competition, social, and health education. Some of the examples of topics they will cover include peer pressure, social etiquette, financial habits, and interacting with law enforcement. This is definitely something that our undergraduate members and alumni clubs across the country can easily get involved with, no matter which community that you’re in. Most communities have a big brothers/big sisters or similar organization that are constantly looking for mentors. It’s a great way to have an active relationship with the youth in your area, a way for your Greek organization to stand out in the community for doing something positive, and a fun brotherhood/sisterhood event to create stronger bonds internally! I love everything about it. What if we cancelled one social event per month and instead created a monthly youth mentorship program? That’s what living the values of our organization is really all about.
