Dan “Nitro” Clark: Achieving Healthy Masculinity

Achieving healthy masculinity is possible on today’s college campuses! Dan Clark is on our show today, but almost everyone calls him Nitro. He earned it because he wore spandex on television for years on the cult hit TV show the American Gladiators. His life changed on December 18, 2013. He had a heart attack. His life was a mess. His health was shot. Confidence collapsing. Future uncertain. Slipping into depression. At his low point in the hospital, after the heart attack, he actually said four words that he never thought, he’d say. “I want to die.” Then he fought and dug his way out of it. Over time, he not only gained self-confidence, positivity and motivation, he also discovered simple, actionable tools to change his life. He used them to go from “wanting to die” to where he is now, living some of the happiest, healthiest, most productive and profound times of his life.

In episode 540 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we talk to Dan about why he chose San Jose State University, what was special about the brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon that made him want to join, how you can get things done in your fraternity even if you don’t get along with everyone in the chapter, how we can encourage healthy masculinity in our fraternity, why building authentic connections is so important in your fraternity, and what regrets he has about his college experience. Enjoy!
